Update report - July 21, 2014

Putting the finishing touches to another V12 engine rebuild in the CJ machine shop..

Oil pan drain plug was stripped
Threaded steel insert welded in place

Finished result looks original, but is much stronger

Short block assembly now virtually complete
Surfacing the cylinder head decks

One of the heads on the assembly bench
Heads now installed, almost finished..

I am pleased to report that we now have your engine rebuild underway..


Trial fitting main bearings

Align hone required
Trial fitting crank with new bearings

Balancing crank

Measuring oil pump clearances

New pistons and liners
Torque plate cylinder hone in progress

Time to tackle the cylinder heads

Measuring tappet clearances
Shrapnel damage and broken valve seat

Welding up corrosion and shrapnel damage to head in the
CJ Coachworks
Milling down excess welds

Heads will require several rounds of weld repairs

Heads put up a pretty good fight before they parted
company with the block
Shrapnel inside a cylinder never a good thing - this
is the remains of a damaged nut
Complete nut inside another cylinder
Underside of head is badly damaged and will need 
extensive repairs
