Jaguar E Type - Terry's Jaguar
Dyno results |
With one possible exception, there is nothing subject to more exaggeration by gentlemen the world over than how much horsepower their engines produce. It is extremely easy to manipulate a dyno machine to produce whatever results you want to hear. Certain race engine builders approach the dyno shop in the same way the wicked witch of Snow White fame used to look in the mirror, i.e. "Mirror mirror, on the wall....".Bill Terry (Terry's Jaguar - Benton, Illinois) prefers factual, real world dyno testing. Other than intake temperature and vapour pressure, he does not enter correction factors into the equation. Accordingly, of countless dyno tests he has conducted over the years, each shares the same common base line. He does this so that he can compare one engine to another and accurately gauge the benefit (or otherwise) of the various changes and tweaks he makes during the course of his engine building. In my opinion, Bill Terry is the foremost Jaguar race engine builder in the United States - period.
The following dyno sheet relates to a 4.2 Jaguar XK engine currently installed in what is almost certainly the fastest racing E Type in the US. As Bill says, "Some people may have more impressive dyno sheets, but for some reason they can't catch us on the front straight at Road America".
Bill Terry can be contacted in Illinois on (800) 447 4587 or visit the Terrys Jaguar webpage at terrysjag.com
