What's an E Type worth?
by Dan Mooney (January 2004)

Important! The following table represents a guide based on actual sales, purchases and my constant involvement in the E Type market place. It is also only my personal opinion - for whatever that is worth. An E Type, as with any work of art, is worth precisely what someone is prepared to pay for it on the day it is offered for sale - period. What follows is intended to be a very rough guide for people in the market to buy one of the greatest cars ever built.

* A car in the "Top Quality Restoration" category is amongst the finest in the world, not merely a well restored example.

Note: The following table makes no allowance for heavily modified cars, proven concours champions, exceptional original cars or, at the lower end of the price scale, the level of completeness or otherwise. It should be understood that many cars will fall between categories shown and their values will vary accordingly. Cars that are genuinely "top quality restorations" in accordance with the following chart are few and far between. As such, they are prone to attracting even higher bids than the values shown at certain elite auctions. Where N/A (not available) has been shown as a value, this simply means that I have no information in respect of recent sales.

In addition to my daily dealings with people buying and selling E Types, I have also taken into account the two most significant auctions that have taken place in the last 6 months, i.e. RM (Monterrey) in August 2003 and Barrett Jackson (Phoenix) in January 2004.

One final word of warning! Never buy an E Type (or any car, for that matter)  without having first appraised it personally, or had it inspected by an independent expert.
