If you are reading this listing, you probably already know all about the history of the De Tomaso Pantera. The car was designed by American Tom Tjaarda and debuted in Modena, Italy in March 1970. It was presented shortly thereafter at the New York Motor Show, where it received rave reviews for its exotic European styling coupled with a primarily Ford derived drive train. The first production Panteras did not appear until the spring of the following year.

Offered here is a desirable 'pre-lusso' example, equipped with slim, first generation chrome bumpers, a high performance 351 Cleveland engine
, a ZF 5 speed transaxle (shared with Ford's fearsome GT40 race cars) and factory magnesium Campagnolo wheels. This Pantera is an extremely solid example in very presentable 'driver' condition. It is not known whether the indicated mileage of a little over 18,000 is the actual miles. The car was purchased out of California by a Texas collector several years ago, but the full ownership history is not known.

It would be a very easy task to return this car to totally original specs, with the only significant updated components being the headers, exhaust and air cleaner. As previously mentioned, the paint could best be described as 'nice driver quality', exhibiting a few minor nicks and imperfections, but still presenting very well with a deep and consistent shine. The interior is very original and in excellent condition for the car's age, the only obvious flaw being an easily repaired tear along a seam in the driver's seat bottom (see photograph below).

Mechanically, the engine runs strong, the transmission shifts smoothly and the car drives very well. The only mechanical issues we know about are an intermittently sticking right front caliper, and we do not have keys for the doors or the tailgate.

On a recent edition of the Velocity TV show "What's my car worth", a very similar specification Pantera, in only marginally better condition, sold for $110,000. Accordingly, we believe our car represents great value and an excellent investment at our asking price.
