For Sale!
This wonderful Maserati Ghibli is named after strong Egyptian desert storm winds. The stunning design was courtesy of Giorgetto Giugiaro, one of the worlds most prolific and outstanding automotive designers.
The Ghibli was introduced to the world by Maserati in coupe form at the Torino Motor Show in 1966. Descended from the racing Maserati 450 S, the Ghibli featured a 4.7 liter 8 dry sump lubricated engine with four twin choke Weber Carburetors and a ZF 5 speed transmission.
Of the 125 Spyders produced, approximately 20 were optioned with the very expensive factory hard top, as is the case with the Spyder offered here today. According to the accompanying Maserati Classiche documentation, this example left the factory in July of 1970, finished Argento Auteuil over a Black Connolly leather interior. Equipped with a desirable 5 speed gearbox, power steering, rare air conditioning, Borrani wire wheels, and a Becker Mexico FM/AM radio, and the aforementioned, color matched hard top.
Our Spyder was delivered new through Foreign Car City of New York to its first owner, a Mr. John Theurer. It is believed the car remained in the hands of its original owner until 1995, when it was treated to a cosmetic restoration. Approximately 8 years later, around 2003, it was sold to its second owner, Mr. Bob Gett of Massachusetts. In Mr. Gett's hands, the car underwent a mechanical overhaul and was prepared for the New England 1000 rally.
In 2008 the Maserati was acquired by its third owner, who embarked on a cosmetic restoration. The paintwork was professionally refinished in its current light blue metallic by award winning body craftsman, Tim Marinos of Auto Re-creations, AZ. In 2011, the car benefited from a major service at Francois Sicard's renowned SF Restorations in Connecticut. The work performed at that time included suspension, steering, cooling systems and replacement of fuel lines.
In 2018 the car was sold once again and the 33,000 miles showing on the odometer was declared to be the original miles. Our Maserati Ghibli remains in a wonderful condition throughout, both mechanically and cosmetically. Currently with Campagnolo Starburst wheels and newly installed Pirelli Cinturato tires, a second set of factory optioned Borrani wire wheels comes with the car. Also included in the sale is the original factory tool kit, service manual, substantial receipts and service documents, a parts manual, books, the original factory hard top and Maserati Classiche documentation showing that everything is numbers matching.
This wonderful example was purchased by its current owner in early 2021 and has been housed in an exemplary collection. It is currently showing 33,969 miles, which is believed to be the actual miles. It is only being sold to make room in the garage for another exceptionally rare European automobile. This car won “Best of Show” at the prestigious Italian Motor Gathering in Texas in 2021, and the “Corinthian Award" at Keels & Wheels in Kemah, Texas that same year. An incredibly rare opportunity to acquire an original USA delivered Maserati Ghibli Spyder in superb condition.
