Here is a fantastic opportunity to buy a totally restored, absolutely superb driving 1965 Mustang for a tiny fraction of the restoration costs. This car could not be replicated for three or four times the asking price! The starting point for this restoration was a C code (289ci - 2 barrell) Mustang coupe. It has been restored as a tribute to the HiPo (K code) cars that were announced for the 1965 model year. The restoration was performed by a retired airline pilot who had owned one of the original HiPo cars when they were new. While obviously an amateur restorer, the quality of his work is immediately apparent in the photographs of the finished car below.
This was a complete 'nut and bolt' rotisserie restoration and the car has probably been driven less than 2,000 miles since the work was completed about 3 years ago. The car runs and drives beautifully. It has new and uprated suspension front and rear and a SSBC front disc brake conversion provides the stopping power up front. This car really is a joy to drive and truly could be used as a daily driver, or driven cross country with absolute confidence. The rebuilt three speed manual transmission shifts smoothly and the fully rebuilt engine is exceptionally strong. Bored .040" oversized, the engine features an upgraded cam, intake manifold and four barrell carb. A nice touch is a set of genuine K code exhaust manifolds which no doubt contribute to the purposeful growl through the Magnaflow mufflers. This car has a fantastic exhaust note. Although we have not dyno tested this Mustang, it is certainly much stronger than the 270 hp output of the original HiPo cars. It pulls like a train!
The bodywork, including panel fit and paintwork, is very good, but not quite perfect. While it is exceptional for an amateur restoration, it is perhaps not quite up to the very best professional standards. Having said that, the car shows beautifully and would make even the most discerning new owner proud. It almost goes without saying that there is not a single, solitary grain of rust anywhere on this car. It is as clean underneath as it is in the show quality interior.
This car does not have power steering or air conditioning.
